Google Blog Presentation

GOOGLE BLOG PRESENTATION

I am an educator with a major in physics and a minor in mathematics.  I received a Master of Science in The Teaching of Mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago Illinois.

I Emmett L. Bradbury am the CEO/President and owner of “Bradbury Software Enterprise Inc.”

As a mathematics teacher, I taught thirty five years in the “Public Schools of Chicago”, “The City Colleges of Chicago” and also at private colleges and universities in the Chicago area.

BSE has developed an electronic product called “Arithmetic Skill Master I” ASM-I, is designed to teach the skills of the arithmetic of whole numbers to children in the first to the fifth grade in the elementary school—or to anyone who needs these skills.

In the past teachers used computers to assist them in teaching. ASM-I shows us that modern advancements in computer technology have produced a new way of learning.

“A Computer Can Teach”

When I stated —a computer can teach I don't mean the human teacher is not a part of the teaching process.

What will change will be the human teacher will no longer have contact with the children during the learning process—although, she will direct the computer in its contact with her pupils.

The truth of this statement opens the door to outstanding improvements in the teaching of our children— it makes possible:

“Quality Control”

in the education procedures and structures.

BSE has both educational and social objectives in producing ASM-I.

At present only one-third of those who enter the first grade of elementary school reach the four year high school, and about one in nine graduates.

Educational procedures should be determined by the needs of the society it serves—the practices used should include the very top of our technological knowledge. This presently is not being done.

If our school systems administrators seriously look at electronic learning, they would find that a third of their curriculum could be taught electronically.

Now the school system administrator can began to address the problems of the teachers of large cities and any teacher that stands before thirty or more pupils.

It seems the parents of our children have deserted the school teacher by sending their child to school with no idea of what their conduct should be.

Using electronic learning is going to free teachers to teach parents and unprepared children how to behave in the class room.

The parents of well behaved children and all teachers must demand school administrors and their political leaders to get this done.

Helping to make United States children competitive in the world economy is an objective every American should have.

Every child in our public schools gets a different education in spite of our curriculum guides.  The teachers that a pupil is exposed to are different in number, their ability to teach, together with their subject interests and their devotion to teaching. Quality control is not possible in a system using this method of instruction.

ASM-1 uses the computer to present each item of instruction to each child in such a way that the following enhancements will follow:

(a)ASM-1 will teach children at their own rate of learning.  A parent who realizes that her child is moving ahead of where his class is can encourage him or her to move on.  On the other hand, if the child is behind of where his class is, she can ask or demand that he work harder.
(b) The parent will know what skills her child has mastered.  To find out what skills your child has not learned, he can take every examination up to where his class is currently studying.  If there are gaps, go back and remove them.

The parent will know how long the child spent in each session.  These times could indicate:

(1) The pupil has distractions.
(2)  The pupil has interest problems.
(3) The subject is too complex for the child and there could be intellectual issues.

BSE intends to produce a software product that will replace the teacher who stands in front of a group of children delivering learning instructions.  ASM-1 will be a first attempt to create an avenue for quality control in the learning processes of children in our public and private schools.  The computer will give us the information we need to improve our teaching.

If ASM-1 is as outstanding as we believe, there are several avenues of economic distribution: clearly, parents with children who are having difficulty in learning the arithmetic of whole numbers will buy ASM-1. Although this is a large market, there is a much larger one, the public and private schools of America.

With this in mind, BSE has created two different ASM-1 disks—-one disk to sell to parents and a teacher disk for public and private elementary schools of America.  Both disks will have the same content but the teacher disk will allow the teacher to make changes that help her pedagogical endeavors.

We intend to present to the school systems in America a software and hardware program to meet their requirements in producing a quality controlled education for all children.

Over the last ten years the development of computer technology has catapulted into regions never before thought possible—-C++, “TOOLBOOK OPEN SCRIPT”.  These powerful languages are not used to their capacity.

There will be an ASM-II, ASM-III and a ASM-IV.  ASM-II will teach the concepts and skills of fractions— ASM-III will teach the skills and concepts of decimals and percent.

ASM-VI will teach:

(a) The concepts and skills learned in ASM-I, ASM-II, and ASM-III when used in applied problems.
(b) Advanced ideas that are produced in the study of the structure of the real number system.
(c) Introduction of base 10 as our counting system together with the idea that other bases can be used in counting.
(d) Introduction of area and volume.
(e) Measurement.
(f) Economic problems.

BSE in this year will produce software that will teach all eight years of elementary school math to our children

I am a veteran of “World War II”. I served in the only black airborne infantry battalion —”555th Infantry battalion attached to The 82 Airborne Infantry Division.

Both my wife and son helped me create BSE, but I am the only officer of BSE.

BSE has been incorporated for ten years—ASM-I was written using “TOOLBOOK II INSTRUCTOR” v9, owed by Sum Total Corp.

The computer gives our teachers a new way to reach our children.

From electronic learning our teachers will be able to know each child’s progress in each item of instruction, with this information she could make changes to produce better recorded learning results.

This process will lead to:

“QUALITY CONTROL”
