There are arithmetic facts that must be put to memory. Practice is the only answer. Addition facts -- the multiplication tables are a must. You must memorize theses facts. ASM-I directs you in these task. ASM--I make sure that you have accomplished each skill. Learning mathematics is a sequence of learning event. Addition before subtraction-- multiplication before division. How well you learn each skill helps you in the learning of all the following skills. ASM-I makes sure you learn each skill to perfection. After passing the examination of each skill we will know that you have mastered the skills of whole number arithmetic. Calculators have been introduced in the third grade. This is the worst idea in the world. Caculators are useless when a child is trying to learn elementary algerba--simple arithmetic facts are needed in many cases.
Our children must understand arithetic when orther bases that base 10 are used. Base two introduces our pupils to the computer. If you want to find a job in the "Twenty First Century" you must have some contact and understanding of the computer. In most cubicals that have a new employee will work in will have a key board. The key board means they expect you to be able to type.
BEING ABLE TO TYPE IS A MUST
Our Children must understand arithmetic when other bases are used in counting. They can't learn this with our first learning base 10 arithmatic. The computer uses base 2 - this is a fact every high school graduate should know and understand.
Again, it is the responsibility of the public schools of America to teach our children what is needed to successfully enter our economy.
